So I got to start off with this isn’t totally free, you must rent a board and have a way to get yourself there. You could pay a lot more to get a shuttle, and if thats what you want, go for it! If you are looking for an extra adventure, less money and more freedom, continue reading. I am writing this because when we went to El Mogote, we got pretty lost and I’m hoping to help people avoid the problems we had. If you have a car and your boards, put Dunas Grandes Mogote in your map. If you use Google Maps, it will show you an interesting way to go, you want to follow it up to the right turn off of Federal Highway 1, then instead of making a left into the bush, lol, keep going straight until you reach a fork at the end then make that left and follow the roads(there are a few). As long as you keep going that same direction you will see the big dunes on your right at some point. The map below shows you were you want to go.
Its a lot of work walking up. I would recommend starting with a less steep dune and working your way to more steep, sometimes if it is not steep enough, you don’t really make it down and its a lot of effort. Also, don’t make the same mistakes as us and go in the middle of the day. Early in the morning or when its cooled off a bit in the afternoon before sunset, are great times to get out there. Remember to bring water and fill up your gas beforehand. Other things to be mindful of, the road is sandy, I know obviously right! We were able to get our Nissan March through it, but it was spicy at times. They were making a road in April ’23, so maybe it will be a bit easier on that first straight road you make a right onto from the highway. I hope this was helpful to you! Have fun boardin’!
